January 2024 Update

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed their vacation.  Everyone should be rested and ready to get back to work.  Catholic Schools Week will start at the end of the month and our color is purple.

In fifth grade Social Studies we are studying the events that led up to the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the beginning of a new country. We will learn about the many taxes that Great Britain imposed on the Colonies and the reactions of the people living in the British colonies.   As we learn about this period we are encountering colonial leaders who went on to guide the country through the Revolution and later through the establishing of a new country.

Fourth grade Social Studies is completing a unit on the Southeast.  We have read about the geography of the region, the Native Americans, and the early history.  Currently we are studying what the region is like today.

In reading, the fifth grade is reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen.  This is an exciting story of thirteen-year-old Brian who is stranded in the Canadian wilderness and how he survives.

Students should be reviewing their notes every night, even when there is no written homework.  This practice will help them to retain the material we cover in class.
